Lucas Blalock’s Digital Toolkit
A Short Film by Rafael Salazar and Ava Wiland
2015, 6 min
Artist Lucas Blalock flips the rules of photoshop by preserving the clumsy quality of his alterations -- cutting, masking, erasing and drawing -- in a kind of slapstick full of pathos and whimsy. Inspired by and drawing on the artist’s slapstick studio process, Blalock’s alterations are brought to the foreground in this piece produced for Art21’s Webby-nominated New York Close Up web series, through a series of reenactments, sleights of hand, and clumsy animations, that overtake the video itself.
